Why You Should Quit Smoking – Quit Smoking Facts and Advice

By Renee Pullman

One of the biggest problems with smoking is that the damage to our bodies takes place over such a long time that it doesn’t seem real to those whom it is killing.

Smoking, The Leading Cause of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

  1. Shortness of breath
  2. Coughing Up Mucus
  3. fatigue

These are three symptoms that most smokers will run up against either at a younger or older age. I have seen men as young as their mid thirties on inhaled steroids attempting to treat the symptoms of the disease.

No Cure For COPD

COPD develops so slowly that those who are getting it are unaware. After time they realize they are tired and perhaps wheezing when they breathe. Treatment may ease the symptoms but that is all. There is not much left for the doctor to tell you except that you have killed yourself. Your realization is that you have paid a great deal of money to do this.

Because COPD is such a slow moving disease if you quit in the early stages you stand a good chance of living out a normal life. If you quit smoking in later changes you can greatly slow and in some cases stop the progress of the disease.

Slow Death of Suffocation

A big problem that smokers have as the disease progresses is that they become more and more vulnerable to colds, flu, bronchitis, pneumonia. COPD leaves them with lowered lung capacity and allows these illnesses to do more damage to the lungs and further curtail the ability to breathe.

Many smokers die after a bout with bronchitis or pneumonia. Their lungs so weak that they struggle for air. Some have a difficult recovery, while others may find themselves on a respirator, a machine to breathe for them. If either of these groups make it home they may well find themselves on oxygen machines, their lungs unable to pull enough oxygen from the air for them to stay alive. This will buy time, it will improve quality of life for a time as in the end your loved ones will have to watch you die, before your time, with nothing to be done about it.

Quit Smoking And Save Your Life

Quitting smoking will begin to erase some of the damages to your body. Often damage to the lungs can be slowed or reduced by stopping and developing a healthful life style that includes proper exercise to expand your breathing capacity.

The desire to quit smoking along with the conviction that you can quit will go a long way to helping you be successful in quitting smoking.
